Dear Students,
Orientation for the KIM1170 General Chemistry (service course), KIM1621 General Chemistry 1, and KIM1501 General Chemistry (Chemical Engineering) labs will be held during the week of October 5–9, 2026 (Week 2). Laboratory experiments will begin during the week of October 12–16, 2026.
During the week of October 5–9, 2026 (Week 2), our department’s lab courses will include orientation sessions for students in the relevant labs during lab hours, led by the course coordinator and supervised by the responsible research assistants. Attendance at the orientation is mandatory for all students enrolled in the course, and attendance will be taken.
Thereafter, starting October 12, 2026 (Week 3), experiments will begin in the relevant laboratories. The experiment schedules for KIM1170 General Chemistry and all laboratories with the KIM code will be posted on the course instructor’s personal AVESIS page. In addition, the lab schedules will be posted on bulletin boards outside the respective labs by the research assistant in charge of the lab.
Important points to note regarding the laboratory courses to be offered this semester are listed below:
1) Students who previously took the lab courses and failed with a grade other than F0, and are retaking the course, will be exempt from lab work and will not be required to attend.
2) All laboratory workbooks for our department’s courses (including the KIM1170 General Chemistry Workbook) are available at the campus bookstore (Yıldız Store Copy Center). There is no requirement for students to use a specific laboratory notebook format designated by the department; instead, the format jointly determined by the course coordinators will apply.
3) In accordance with laboratory safety regulations, students must wear a lab coat, safety goggles, and gloves before beginning the lab session and throughout the experiment, and must follow the lab instructor’s instructions. There is an 80% attendance requirement for laboratory courses. Students are entitled to one make-up opportunity and must submit their medical certificates to the instructor in charge of the relevant group within 3 (three) business days following the end of the lab session.
