Undergraduate Program Overview

STUDENT PROFILE

The goal of the Chemistry Department is to train chemists who will work in both production and quality control within Turkey’s chemical industry. The program includes theoretical courses, laboratory exercises, and laboratory and industrial internships following a preparatory class in a foreign language. In their final year, students are divided into specialization tracks to gain more specific knowledge in various subfields.

Chemists are among the most sought-after professionals in an industrialized country. Their fields of work are quite broad. Since sectors such as petroleum products, chemicals ,pharmaceuticals ,paints ,food ,metals ,paper ,plastics ,cleaning products ,cosmetics , andtextiles are directly related to chemistry, and as well as in sectors like machinery andmining —which have an indirect connection to chemistry—chemists can find employment in all these fields.

In industry, chemists can work in three main areas: quality control, production, and R&D (research and development). Generally, quality control involves verifying whether a manufactured product meets specific standards, while R&D refers to the design of new products and the improvement of existing ones. Depending on where they work, chemists are in constant communication with chemical engineers, pharmacists, and laboratory technicians.

In addition, chemists can pursue master’s and doctoral studies to take on senior roles in research laboratories, or they can pursue academic careers at universities.
